Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami was an Indian Gaudiya Vaishnava guru who founded ISKCON, commonly known as the "Hare Krishna movement".Members of ISKCON view Bhaktivedanta Swami as a representative & messenger of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Sanatan Guru HDG A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada People from all walks of life, including hippies got attracted to âSwamijiâ & became his followers.These followers gradually took initiation from him became his disciples.In July 1966,Sanatan Guru Srila Prabhupada established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in New York.His aim was to use the society to promote Krishna consciousness throughout the world.In the short time he spent in the West,he preached continuously, established 108 temples,wrote more than sixty volumes of transcendental literature, initiated five thousand disciples, founded the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, and began a scientific academy(the Bhaktivedanta Institute) & other trusts related to ISKCON.
