Poven's journey in music began after he won the Guinness Canto Rock Competition in 1996 with his band, Deftcon and landed a contract with Polygram and touring across the country, performing. However, their debut album was met with disappointment when a fire broke out in the recording studio, destroying all of their hard work.
Feeling frustrated, Poven decided to keep pursuing by forming a new band called Malito. They played in Halo Rock Cafe and gained a following for their energetic performances of classic rock. Poven also sing for commercials for well-known brands like Honda, KFC, Kikapoo, F&N, and Maxis. He even sang for the World Cup Hockey 2000 and the movie theme Kinta1881.
In 2013, Poven started a music school called Mega Music World. Then in 2018, he opened a recording studio, Mojo Melisma, and another new company called Tutti Creative. Poven feels that music has the power to uplift and inspire people, and he hopes to use it as a tool to edify people.
