When you're mixing your clay wash, you DO NOT want it to have the mud like consistency of a clay face mask. That was a mistake I made myself when I first started clay washing about eight years ago. The problem with thick clay washes is that it's very difficult to rinse them out of your hair, and it can be an overload of nourishment and minerals for your hair, potentially leave it feeling a bit over strengthened. And because it's difficult to rinse out when it's thick, it can leave a powdery sort of clay residue that can dry and leave your hair a bit stiff. So you want a very watery clay wash. A good place to start is to not go any more than one quarter cup of clay to two cups of liquid. And in fact, you could probably even start out with a bit more watery of a mixture than that. It's amazing at how potently cleansing this clay wash can be, even when it's very watery.

I wasted a lot of clay because I always made a mud like thing instead of a watery solution. It was such a satisfying feeling but it was hard to rinse it out. I highly recommend using it with a lot of water.

Thank You for addressing this! I has a chat a few days ago with Deborah from Ireland debating whether to clay wash to get past rhe stringy look of no poo. Another Lady replied saying: Have you ever tried to wash greasy dishes without soap.
My main concern is how much of a mess would it make? Should i wash hair in rhe utility sink rather than the shower?

Iโve tried it and it works pretty well, must be rinsed with the ACV though. Unfortunately I canโt use this on my henna coloured hair, it totally stripped the colour within two washes ๐ข

Ahm interesting. I started about 6 weeks ago and I was worried I made it soon thin because when I put it on, it just drips off my hair. So what's the best way to put it on your hair. I was just using my fingers from the cup mixed it in!

Does clay dry your hair out? its draws moisture out just wondering. I use clay cakes to clean metals to new condition and oven glass too. So I can see how it can clean hair.

But the clay wash does not take the oil treatment out of my hair so i need to shampoo...is there a solution to this?
