"Fully mechanical" never means it won't break, just means even a Marine can fix it.

Don't forget the hole in the front bumper for the emergency hand crank in case the electric starter fails.

That light flipping to shine in the engine compartment should be utilized today.

An Air Force veteran of the Korean war in my neighborhood took almost 20 years to track down all original parts for one of these. It's a beauty! He gets invited to all the parades and car shows. It was a real pleasure to hear him describe what he knew about the Jeep.

Blackout lights weren't to drive in enemy territory they were to reduce the light that could be used to give away your location from planes flying overhead.

My late grandfather was one of the main engineers on the Willys (this jeep)…he was killed when my mother was young so I never met him, but God rest his soul for all the good he did in this world.

My brother-in-law has one of these beauties and for a 80 year old design, their off road capabilities are still incredibly impressive.

Also the flat hood was designed to carry a stretcher to evacuate wounded soldiers. The whole thing came disassembled in a box, packed in grease. And was assembled basic hand tools.

It's missing the most important feature. The front and back tow hitch that you could link multiple jeeps together to make a caterpillar chain to get through bogs and swamps

As shown, the original Jeep was actually a fairly low profile vehicle. Able to get under things, as well as over things too. The gas tank in the middle was for safety for not being shot , but also for weight distribution. Wonderful design.

Who ever built and welded that jeep is a legend

In the middle of rebuilding a 44 MB Willys; the thing that strikes me the most is the ease at which these are to maintain and own... Every part you can ever imagine is still in production in some shape or form.. Unlike any other military vehicle, these are immensely easy to keep on the road.

My favorite Jeep feature: they were stackable, almost like Legos. With windhields folded, the top jeep's wheels lined up onto the bottom's wheel covers, so you could transport twice as many. 16 Jeeps onto a single train flatbed.

You forgot. It all fits in one box for easy shopping.

The lightbulb moment when I realized that we should still be implementing headlights like that today. Instead of my iPhone flashlight turning off literally every time I touch the phone, always conveniently at the worst possible time. 🤦🏻‍

Man! I drove one of this style jeep when I was in the Army. It was great. I have loads of adventure stories. It took me everywhere and did everything I needed it to do.
