For real, HP does not need a reboot. LotR does not need a reboot. Let these great fantasy franchises live on in peace as they are… There are SO MANY other fantasy series out there just waiting patiently on a shiny silver platter, waiting for their time to shine. Give us new stuff, Hollywood!! Reboots begone!

I’m really looking forward to this, and so are my kids. My boy just finished reading books, and we spent passed couple of weeks working through the films, and he was really disappointed by them. He isn’t part of the generation that got lost in all the hype of them coming out, so is really stoked to get a series that will focus more closely on the books better

I've always believed they would re-adapt Harry Potter, but this feels a bit too soon, and with the current climate of adaptations not meeting expectations and changing a lot of stuff to force some agenda, I am a bit worried. Also I am a bit worried as to how a Series would adapt these books. While I have always wanted more of the world from the page to be shown on screen, I've never been sure a series was the right choice. The first 3 books are quite short, the first two especially and those movies are like 90-95% adapted from the books with very few changes over all. The later books of course cut a lot more as they were a lot thicker, but there is a lot of dead time in those books where not a lot happens, which could lead to some very boring filler episodes. Also the books aren't structured to be broken up in a series like fashion. It would be hard to give each episode a proper arc and either have the episode end on a cliffhanger or end in some kind or resolution, rather than just ending when the time is up. Could maybe work if each book got shorter seasons and longer episodes, like 90 min epodes like Sherlock, so each is basically a short movie. So the first book could be 3 episodes, the first focusing on Harry at the Dursleys, developing that relationship, add in the first chapter from the book, go on to show Hagrid picking Harry up, the Dragon Alley shopping trip, which could be more elaborate than in the movie, the train ride and the sotring, ending as Harry starts school. The second episode would show select scenes from the classes, the troll, the quidditch match and end at the Mirror of Erised, the third episode would then show spring, Norbert and the forbidden forest and the ending.

If it was animated I’d be more interested. It really feels like the best step creatively for a series budget.
