I think itโ€™s great that you do these videos. I hope lots of people in your situation, perhaps especially younger people, see them. Thank you.

The fabric covered bags also make very little noise, whereas the clear plastic ones crinkle as you move. Once youโ€™ve had your stoma for some time, you donโ€™t really need to look at it while youโ€™re wearing a bag. Some cloth covered bags do have an inspection window covered by a fabric panel that you can lift up if you need to see your stoma, but I donโ€™t recall how common that is. Thereโ€™s so many products out there that it is really important to have a good wound ostomy nurse to help you navigate all the brands and options because it can be overwhelming to have all that information thrown at you immediately after your surgery.

Iโ€™m almost 5 months post op and still using the clear bags. The only reason being that my insurance only pays for the clear ones ๐Ÿ˜ญ

You have no idea how helpful your videos are. Iโ€™m having to make a decision on getting a stoma in the near future. I still have no idea what to do. But your videos and perspective or so appreciatedโค

I prefer a see through bag for a number of reasons: Firstly you can see what your output is like and how long it takes you to digest certain foods. Secondly you can see through the bag to make sure it has been placed on correctly. Thirdly It is a good way to tell what foods you might have difficulty digesting and how long it can take to digest them. Fourthly it's important to be able to see if you are taking medication, that the medication you are on gets broken down in your body and not passed out within your stool. Fifthly if its a question of insecurity and others seeing it, you can always invest in a bag cover for it that will cover it with a design (I have one with a Batman Theme).

I work with individuals who use an ostomy bag. It's 24 hour nursing, and they use a clear bag with a Velcro closure

I always thought clear collection bags - for urine or fecal matter - are the choice of nursing staff. I can't imagine a patient would want that reminder.

I love my clear bags. It lets me know where I'm at as far as motility rate. Ex: If I have beet juice and I see w/in an hr. I know I'm passing a little fast. But within 4 hrs max I will have passed it.

When I got out I continued to wear the clear bag until I was informed that it was grossing people out. Seems obvious now but never gave it a thought back then.

I'm curious about something please?? U know if u have a cut or a wound it automatically tries to heal itself by closing slowly. How does this opening stay open without scabbing over or trying to heal???

I had lost my mom in 2009 she was a quadriplegic, she always wanted a different bag but always got a clear bag, How long have these been out? As my mom's caregiver she wore a ostomy bag for at least 30 years. She mostly was given Hollister brand which often were flawed and leaked. I hope that can be fixed for all bags, and I think she would of liked to of had one a different color! Now that would be something to get one perhaps a pale pink or blue, perhaps one day and a band that would allow a wearer to be able to have one in a shower or tub. My mom couldn't use a shower or tub due to the fact she had a bag, because it wouldn't stick to the skin and would leak if gotten wet. Was this issue ever fixed? ed
