Unfortunately, this attempt didn’t quite do it for me. The music was there, but it lost some of its rhythm because the left hand wasn’t moving with enough control. This is a vibrant, energetic prelude, and the pedaling (it sounded like the pedal was used) combined with the slightly lagging hand made the chords sound a bit mushy at times, as though they were falling into one another. Furthermore, I felt that the dynamic content could have been more interesting. I felt there was not enough of a contrast between the quiet, moody interludes and the majestic, forte climaxes. All in all, the piece just didn’t have the movement that was originally intended. However, this is to be understood. Those little sixteenth notes are difficult to hit precisely with just one hand especially when you are constantly juggling complex chords. And I understand as a violinist. Sometimes you can practice something for ages and ages and, no matter what, it never appears to be completely perfect. And then you go to perform it and you think, “okay, it’s gonna be good now because this is a performance and everything will fall into place”, and then it still doesn’t totally work. However, it was still good enough to be beautiful. It was still beautiful music and just because there were minor errors (and they were just minor errors) did not mean that the main melody was tarnished. It was nice!
