When I was younger, I heard a saying that: "it is better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission". I thought "that's crazy talk" and made no sense. In my 50's I learned through many personal experiences, and that of several others, that it is absolutely true! This does not mean to just act on a whim and hope for the best. Think it through, weigh the upsides and downsides, and if it is the right thing to do, just do it! It's both liberating and efficient. I never had any complaints doing this.
