Ted Arcidi is one of the greatest bench pressers of all-time, doing 650@275 and 666@308 which stood as World Record for over a decade. He was also the first ever to bench 700 when he did 320kg/705# at the 1985 Hawaii Record Breakers in an early bench shirt. He then went on to a career as a professional wrestler in the WWF.

I fell in love with powerlifting because of this man. When I was a teenager, there was the Australian version of Wide World of Sports. In 1984 they showed a meet in Hawaii where this man benched some big numbers (before the 705) and it was quite a shock to me. The power he had, the psych up antics. Ted Arcidi is one of the somewhat forgotten powerlifters along with many others. Thank you CWS.

His 650 at 275 in 1983 was completely raw, no equipment at all. This lift to me is even more impressive. It stood for well over 30 years until Jeremy Hoonstra finally broke it.
