I really thought my life was over at 16 when I woke up to an ostomy bag. It turned out to be the exact opposite!

This was largely my story as a teen also. Diagnosed at 13 after literally having digestive issues my entire childhood. Emergency surgery 2 weeks after my 16th birthday because of a complete bowel obstruction. I also woke up with an ostomy, which I knew was a possibility and for the first time ever, I was actually healthy. I could eat more, I felt SO much better, more energy, also not in the bathroom constantly, and was able to live a normal teenage life. I started dated, continued competing gymnastics, played softball, played snare drun in the pep band, went away to college, started playing hockey, continued playing drums, did All the college things, and so much more! I also grew 4 inches and gained 30lbs. I was able to have my ostomy taken down when I was 21 but it literally saved my life and though it sucked a lot of the time, I'm also so grateful. An ostomy is a probability for me in the future so at least I now know I can live a normal life with it and it won't be so traumatic the second time atound. Thank you for everything thing you do! Your channel is INVALUABLE to everyone facing lofe with an ostomy, especially young people. I only wish resources like your channel were around for me yhe first time.

So happy you are living life so fully, this gives me great hope that my life will continue to get better. Just the freedom to eat when and how i want is a true miracle in itself

Maggie! I’m so happy to see you happy and enjoying your day after all you’ve been through recently, you deserve all the happiness life has to offer you! I don’t know if you remember, but we met a year ago at the Ostomy Convention in Texas and I had the privilege of meeting you in person and getting to know you, and I’m sure I told you then, but I just wanted to say again thank you so much for doing this! Your videos got me through the worst of my recovery when I had my proctectomy and first permanent ileostomy made after suffering for years from pelvic sepsis. I was completely gutted, emotionally and literally lol, when I woke up from my 10 hour surgery and my mom had to tell me that they couldn’t save my J pouch and that I was going to have to live with a bag on for the rest of my life. Honestly my first thought was that I could just end things and cut the rest of my life short so I wouldn’t have to suffer through what I thought would be an eternity of traumatic memories caused by another poorly made stoma and a leaky pouching system, but after my desperate search online for any way to cope, I stumbled upon your videos and watched your series from when you’d had your own proctectomy around the same time as me, and despite the fact you were still struggling to heal physically, just like I was, your strength, smile and fortitude gave me a small sliver of hope that maybe I didn’t have to stop living, maybe I would be okay. I decided I’d just at least give this new life a try, and while I did end up needing a lot more surgeries and a stoma revision later on, it was worth it and the revision was the best thing that could’ve happened to me, the new stoma I got is almost perfect and I was fitted with a really good pouching system, and now I can’t even remember the last time I had a leak, which I hadn’t thought was even possible for me before. It’s been 6 years since my last ileostomy was made and looking back I’m finally glad that I have my stoma and that I’m still alive. And for that I’ll always be grateful for you and your videos, and I hope you know that in many ways you are saving the lives of so many hopeless young girls like me by sharing your story and encouraging us not to give up with your channel. You’re genuinely an inspiration and I wish you the best! :)

For me it was the same. After I got a stoma, I was suddenly able to start doing things I could only dream of doing before. I was always afraid to go anywhere where there wasn't a toilet and even if there was, I was always afraid of getting stuck in there because of my stomach. With the stoma, I have been able to do things I love, for example being out by the sea, walking in the forest, going out to eat. It's scary from the start when you get a stoma, but then it's up to everyone who has one to do what they can with life. Those bathing suits are wonderful on you and your dogs are so nice.❤
