Was very lucky to have had master classes with Maestro Katsaris during the pandemic. Not only is he an absolute virtuoso at a piano but he is also very approachable and open to new interpretations.

I’ve heard people regard this Schubert-Liszt arrangement as “not too difficult,” but even still, Katsaris’ performance is untouchable. His volume control, embellishments, phrasing - all of these spices that he peppers into his performances elevate them to something that even virtuosos can only dream of achieving. (Seriously! Compare Katsaris’ performance to Hamelin’s. Night and day.) What a nice reminder that Katsaris’s teacher’s teacher’s teacher was Liszt himself.

He doesn’t play harshly; even when ff or fff are indicated, there are instances where his right hand stays in a perfectly balanced, fixed dynamic that prevents it to sound harsh yet it is audible. Pleasing piano tone. The bass, though, is strong when needed and the resulting combination is welcome.

🎹🤨🙏🏾🎹✨Hmm this is a difficult piece. Bringing out all three Melodies is quite a challenge. 🤔I remember my college piano teacher Dr Marchionni having me to woodshed what I thought to be a terribly easy work; Chopins Prelude in B minor when at the time I was wanting to go on to my next hard work Liszts mesphisto waltz. I protested but he insisted that I work out the very middle of the piece identifying a series of 3 harmonics that he wanted me to study and bring out saying it would help me in the next piece. We got almost into a piano fight!! Lol 😆 but after basically “destroying” this simple Chopin prelude, and pulling out the Melodies so that they could be heard more independently, I could then move on to the next major work to prepare. I couldn’t have asked for a better football 🏈 level piano coach than Dr Marchionni.
