Making your child their own food that's structured around their dietary needs and restrictions is a parenting W that I wish every parent would adhere to

Agreed. What IS rude is being upset if a host didn’t have things that met your child’s needs- especially if unknown OR expecting the host to tailor everything around a guest (unless it is an anaphylactic allergy that is discussed ahead of time).

Agreed! It shows politeness to the host and your thoughtfulness that your child is included in the celebration.

Your child’s well being trumps the “am I rude or not “ question.

As a parent that doesn't deal with kiddos with allergies, it can be overwhelming to suddenly have to plan for a child that does have allergies. It takes a huge mental load off my plate to know their parent is willing to provide safe food for that child. I would be mortified if I screwed up and gave a child a food I thought was safe and it actually wasn't safe for them.

As a birthday party host this is accurate. I would also add that it could extend to texture sensitivities.

That's incredibly polite and responsible. You're taking responsibility for YOUR child's allergy instead of expecting or asking OTHERS to accommodate them. Love this!

As the host, I would be grateful. As someone with allergies and a special diet, I would’ve felt so loved if my mother did this.

We always asked about food allergies before the party in order to be the best host, but I love when the parents took the helm and brought something that the child would definitely like to eat!

As someone who works in a bakery, this is AMAZING parenting. Not only are you providing an item your child/ren can eat safely, but you're not putting that worry onto another parent who might not fully understand how dire the allergy might be! It would be TOTALLY different if you brought an item say, from a specialty bakery to the party when the party foods are all from Walmart or something. That's just being a self-righteous ass. But no, this was meant to help your child have a good time with their friends, and in turn, the party host as well. Good job Momma!! ❤

This makes it so much easier on the other mom who also wants to help your child feel included but is also already overwhelmed with throwing a birthday party. So thoughtful! Not only that, my mom did something similar for me one year when I went to a summer camp and I, as the child, felt so incredibly loved and watched over. ❤️ it’s probably been about 15 years but I should go thank her for that again 😂

I have over ten allergens and it’s so sweet when someone wants to provide something for me but it’s also so awkward. Like I feel much safer bringing my own stuff bc you probably have no idea how easy cross contamination truly is

literally bringing your own food for them is the sweetest thing you can do, and it means so much to the kid to get to have their own treat instead of having to watch everyone else have fun

As a parent with a Type 1 diabetic child, I took every snack to everything even family Thanksgiving. Totally agree not rude and it is super helpful for everyone involved.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It also absolves the child from the responsibility of managing their diet by themselves when they're too young to have it.

The key here is TELLING whoever is giving the party.

I love this. In my experience ive had a lot of people ask me to provide specific things at the party. I do. Recovering people pleaser. If i had a parent say they are bringing their own specific need id double down and have more for them 😢

💯 Did exactly this for parties in and out of school and matched the theme ahead of time - everthing from "pizza" to snacks, drinks, and dessert
