Once upon a time GW used to have a large number of high-street stores... but nowadays they've moved most of them off of the main streets, into cheaper retail locations that don't get anywhere near as much passing foot traffic. The newer stores are also a lot smaller and tend to have a lot less tables for play.

The way I discovered miniature gaming in general was a games workshop. When I was younger I lived in Maryland and a new mall opened up called arundel mills. Brand new massive mall. And there's was a small games workshop in it right next to a huge fye back when fye did like actual music and stuff. And let me tell you being introduced to miniature gaming in a actual store made for it with demos and stuff like that blew my mind as a kid I thought it was the coolest thing ever. The store isn't there anymore sadly. Didn't want to pay the rent of that small spot at the mall. But man do I miss it.😊

GW doesn't have the ability to make new customers to any impressive degree. They've already fumbled the ball on the tv series and even if they hadn't... it was either going to be too Warhammer for the casual viewers or too casual for the core viewers. If it went for the casual viewer they'd show up for the game, see how absolutely grim dark it is, and leave very swiftly. Any money boost this would have given GW would have been minor and very, very brief. This was an opportunity to do right by the people already dropping disgusting amounts of money on their products, not attract a whole new audience.

The truth is almost all other wargame companies customers are second hand GW customers. Its just a fact, people get into Warhammer and then they branch out.
