I love you and appreciate the sentiment, but this comes off as a very privileged take. You don't live in the US do you? Cause we are not safe. There are parts of this country we are not safe traveling to. I've had friends murdered for being queer. My trans community is under relentless attack here. No, we are not safe here.

respectfully, I dont agree. I dont think that it is our jobs to make people respect us. homophobia is so ingrained within so many people that nothing WE do will be able to change that. it is up to THEM to look inwards and identify their own issues. there will always be people who hate us regardless of how confident in our identity we are

It still baffles me that some people canāt accept we are all different, and I donāt mean just physical appearance; humans come in all shapes and forms with different quirks and their own preferences. However as a 40+ year old who has always identified as bi, it saddens me to see how part of the LGBTQ community is too over the top, in your face at all costs, and at times has displayed illogical, rude attitude towards those who donāt have the same opinions. Unfortunately it gives haters ammunition to call it aātrendā and a āphaseā and is turning open minded people into conservatives š¢ I hope you two continue to show your generation (and ours š)how to get it right! ā¤

This is what makes my life content and happy.....
I try to just live my best life every single day to the fullest.
I never feel that I have to announce or advertise my sexuality, gender, pronouns, etc.
I never let what other people say, think, or do adversely affect my feelings, emotions, or my life.
I don't do anything that potentially opens me up to ridicule or harassment like be in your face gay and/or demanding specific treatment.
Guess what?
I'm happy, very happy with my life and my relationships with friends, family, co-workers, partners, past and present.
I think that too many people nowadays think that being EXTREMELY loud and proud and demanding is going to get them the respect that they THINK that they DESERVE.
Whereas, having respect for yourself and others is where GETTING respect from others begins.
Do what keeps your life peaceful, happy, and content.
Remember, chaos breeds chaos.

I know this is not at all what you meant to say, but I do think that saying things like "we just need to do ___, then people will respect us" or "it starts with us" can be seen as victim blaming and might lead people who often doubt themselves to blame themselves. Because no matter what you do, there will always be people not respecting us, and it is not our job to educate them in a way that makes them least uncomfortable.
