Still used to this day, cocaine hydrochloride nasal solution is used to numb the mucous membrane inside the nose before a medical procedure or surgery.

I remember my dentist saying they were going to inject some lidocaine or benzocaine. I asked them if that was related to cocaine and they said yeah but much safer. So props to Freud for inspiring a way for dental work to be more comfortable with his nose candy.

I would be very surprised if there is anyone who doesn't know of it's past historical use as an anesthetic. More people would be surprised to know that it's still occasionally used in modern medicine, including seeker apparently, though it's only rarely used today. But regardless, it IS still used in some circumstances, where a short anesthetic is needed, along with it's ability to restrict blood flow. Sinus surgeries, for example, is one such use that I'm aware of, which I also find to be somewhat ironic.
