The answer to this question is quite real: school is irrelevant to real life. You have to understand, the practical learning ends at middle. This is also why you can drop out of high school, because it wouldn’t affect your life. The reality is that high school is more of a selection process than a learning process; you are loaded with technical knowledge of each subject in the hope of discovering your talent and leading you into a career path. Therefore, high school math is only designed to lead STEM majors into that career direction and not to educate the general public.

ya. That line about "teachers being able to explain the relevance"? Not true when is comes to most math taught in school. certainly not the teachers I had. Here's two of the most common conversations when I was growing up between students and teachers. Q: "Why do we have to do this long form if we understand the equation enough to know the answer?" A: "So you learn it! You won't have a calculator with you at all times!" Fallacy. If you can intuit the answer, you've learned it. At best, it's a safeguard against cheating, but even then, only one that requires longer to cheat than without it. Plus, everyone knew back then that, with how technology was progressing, it wouldn't be long before we did, indeed, have calculators everywhere we went. Q: "When will we ever need to use this equation?" A: "If you become a math teacher! HAHAHA!" Fallacy: This one is personal to me. I SUCK at math. My brain doesn't do numbers very easily. So, where the joke is funny to the teacher, it's a slap in the face to the students. This means that what they are teaching you has no value outside of very specific careers, and where someone going into those careers will need to learn these techniques, to everyone else, it's just busywork in an already overworked system. You might as well be telling them to shut up and do as I tell you, no matter what it is. I remember doing the math as a kid after noticing a pattern of almost no student being able to finish their homework. After the calculations, I found that the teachers were demanding 14 hours of our attention every weekday and anywhere between 6 to 12 hours of our weekends. For weekdays, assuming an 8 hour sleeping schedule, this left 2 hours for showering, eating, and any extracurricular activities that that individual wanted/needed to do. That is almost all their time. Their life. You want a girlfriend/boyfriend? Better go to school with them or you'll almost never see them. You want to start a club? Better be something quick and easy and only one day a week, because screw you. You want to get/need a partime job? You better be ready to suffer as a slave, because your life is no longer your own. Then add in useless subjects and meaningless lessons and unhealthy social environments and...well...I know this might seem dark and edgy but I mean it when I say when I heard of a school shooting...I kinda get it. I understand how a kid can be pushed that far. There is SO MUCH that NEEDS to change about the American school system. And a lot of it is so mindlessly obvious that it's an insult to intelligence that it isn't implemented. Focus more on teaching things to the kids that will help them understand and thrive in the real world outside of school and less on keeping the students and the teachers busy.

The answer is to move out of states with mandatory public school indoctrination and into a state that offers parents the option of homeschooling the child
