True. I often have my mastering (incl some final mixing) done at another pro's studio. Just to listen what he comes up with to perfect the end result depending on his ears and experience. And yes, I pay him his regular fee.

I paid a mastering engineer to master my mix, but even still he was able to hear and identify issues that made my mixes so much better

I should do this for sure!! Even going on Fiver to see what someone can do subjectivity better. I spend hours upon hours trying different techniques I've learned from masters Like You and I've learned so much but I still can't get my vocals to really explode with clarity and depth. I enjoy every minute of those hours though as I'm definitely improving and enjoying the process. Just wish I had a template so I can just focus on singing π

It's totally true if the music is recorded with traditional set of instruments, or it's something primitive like rap with three sounds around a loop. With multi track music a sound engineer would flogg the parts frequencies into buses thus blurring details.

You can just compare your own song to another song that has similar style to yours with a high quality mix, you can use this method to improve your mix and even make it sound better than the mixes by professional engineers, you gotta have an ear for what you should be listening for tho

Thatβs exactly what I done. The pro engineer even sent the individual stems back so I could analyse them. This was one of the best learning experiences Iβve had so far. π
