I find it pretty alarming how few self-described audiophiles actually play a musical instrument. You would really think if you loved something that much you would pick up an instrument. These days it's not hard to find guitars that are cheaper than Middle in pairs of IEMs.

The most annoying part of audiophilia is trying to justify buying stuff. They are collectors. Using a credit card is not a hobby. Moving speakers around is not a hobby. Hobbyists create and incorporate a skill. DIYers are hobbyists. Gardening is a hobby. Woodworking is a hobby. Cooking is a hobby.

I don't really know what the difference is between hobby and a lifestyle choice. In fact, a lifestyle choice sounds kind of meh to me. Something one might find in Vogue magazine. At least the word hobby has a history.
