Also put all the junk in the yard and let the other kids in the neighborhood dig through the toys and clothes before throwing them away. It takes away half the work because now you will only have to carry half of it to the Dumpster and you save on trash bags because people take the stuff. I recently moved and I did exactly this, it was really fun too because the kids had so much fun playing in the yard with the toys, it was like a treasure hunt for them!

If you have toys, books, etc that your children have outgrown please consider talking to foster families in your area. As a former foster child I still cherish the memories of getting donated toys to play with.

We move every 3-4 years. Personally I’d donate or put on the free/ask nothing pages in your community before just junking stuff (assuming it’s okay quality just not used/out grown). We start purging a few months before our packers come so we’re not overwhelmed when the time comes. However obviously everyone does things differently which is totally cool. 😊

Once you know your moving date, pack a suitcase as if you're going on vacation. Pack for a 2 to 4 week trip about 2 weeks before your move out date. Live out of those suitcases. Put everything you take off back into the suitcase in a dirty cloths bag. Just the same as you would do at camp or something to keep your stuff from getting lost or confused with others' things. Once you've packed your suitcases (need not be actual suitcase), pack anything and everything that is going with you to the new home, but not really needed until you get there. As you get the boxes/bags packed, load them into the moving truck or area you've set aside to hold these boxes/bags until the truck (or whatever vehicle you're using) gets there.

My top tip about the kids stuff-dont throw away the toys!save the best for the grandchildren:) My mother in law just gave me all the toys from her son,and now my sons will play with his toys! All these vintage small cars are so adorable and i love this gift!i wish my mom would have saved my dolls, now i would give them to my daughters.

Mine Was Purge Almost Everything to Either Keep,Donate or Trash. It Literally took a Big Dumpster with many trips of good clothes & toys to the shelter. To get everything into a Single Truck. But you know what I really should of donated or trashed at least another 1/3 of the stuff. Happy Packing I Hope This Helps

If you're really anti-throwing things away, host a yard sale 2-3 weeks before the move and make sure you advertise it as a MOVING SALE. People will show up in droves to moving sales. Price the items to move. Do not price clothing at more than $1 per item unless you have really high end stuff in which case you should probably take that to a consignment store. The last moving sale I did I actually did a "sale within a sale" where I dropped the prices every 2 hours (and advertised this ahead of time). I went from full price to half price to 75% off and then did a 1 hour bag sale where you could full a grocery bag for a dollar. Then at 1pm, everything was FREE. By 2pm all I had left was 2 boxes of stuff that I brought to Goodwill and I had about $400 in cash to deposit in my checking account.

My mom did a house purge 6 months after my dad passed. They needed a dumpster after everything was gone through by family and donations of what she could part with. She is thinking about doing that again. My mom recently offered my dad’s suits to men in the family.

“Rent a dumpster” my dad did that. Took up half our driveway and we filled it completely. Absolutely baffled me.

Paper plates absolutely. True about the junk too we donated a truck load to St.Vincent thrift from our toddlers outgrown clothes and toys. Now I need the dumpster for all the junk drawers my husband has 😂

My husband likes to go through all of our shit to rearrange and see if there's anything we can throw away/donate/get rid of. He does this annually and it lasts for about a month because we do one closet at a time.

I have been seeing a lot of biodegradable birch cutlery (I think it's birch?), that are at least as strong as the traditional plastic ones. And yeah, those thick paper plates with the blue design on the edge are the best. Straight into the compost bin!

I have yet to put something at the end of the driveway that someone didn't pick up and take home. Usually in 1-2 days. I give ALOT away & donate it too

I did after I moved because I was so overwhelmed by all the junk in my boxes that I couldn't unpack. So we got a dumpster and I threw it all in there.

In my country there is a store which takes your old clothes and gives you a coupon to buy the next piece of clothibg from there cheaper than it usually is.
