I had the same thing but wood was the same price. Oak stair with white riaser, I used sweedish finish (acid cured) and its like bulletproof finish. Just buff and recoat every few years.

Had a rental with LVP that the renter managed to chip. Impossible to fix at this point. Real hardwood would have been fixable and carpet would have been able to be patched.
