I would introduce myself as "I'm Brett", but people thought my name was "Ambrett" or whatever made-up name was going through their brain. I give people a lot of cognitive dissonance too, since I am a girl with a boy's name, so 99% of the time people have to double check so they can hear me say my name again, just in case they misheard me. I say my name once and it's as though their brains short circuit.

Funny how I have the exact opposite problem. Every boss I've ever had past 21 has memorized my name perfectly even after a single meeting. I've had bosses I've never met before call me out by name, and I AVOID wearing my name tag at work...... I just wanna be a ghost....

When I was a litte boy, I went to the dentist with my mother and the repectionist said "That's Thomas in." But the dentist heard it as 'That's Tomasen". I think my mother just decided not to correct him as he kept calling that during the visit.

I once had a radiologist mispronounce my name twice and I corrected before realizing on his third “attempt” that he did it on purpose! I have an unusual name and English wasn’t his first language, I caught him smiling and knew he was messing with me!😂
