first guitar for a kid, I'd say a thinline if going acoustic - simply for comfort and playability (even a Fender acoustasonic or Ibanez talman for some electric playability too). But I know when I was a kid I wanted an electric guitar more than anything in the world. It just depends on the kid.

First, get money for a Martin, spend it on yourself, and get them a Yamaha Jr 2. Jr 2 is the best small guitar. Let them put stickers on it.
Encourage them to treat like gold, but you know what happens with kids and instruments.

a friend of mine was recently looking for a guitar for his 14 year old nephew. I gave him my Eastman AR-108ce-ltd, which I got from you guys a few years back. Seemed like a good starter. I believe you should have a good quality, easy to play guitar. I bet he's happy with it.

Great advice. Also please don't buy junk! If you want someone to play forever, buy a forever guitar. Mine was a solid wood Harmony. I still have it over 50 years later.
