You sound a lot younger than you look, but the way you sound and the way you look honestly compliment each other very well

Life Aquatic I think is Andersonā€™s most underrated. The part with Tiger Shark near the end made me cry šŸ˜

The reason why Bottle Rocket is his best movie because that is where Owen Wilson first utters "wow!" onscreen. Birth of a cinematic legend

Bottle Rocket is definitely his funniest film. Though itā€™s a weak example of his film making style that heā€™s known for. Feels like a prototype film. That being said, I saw Life Aquatic at a fairly seminal part in my life so I have strong feelings for it. Therefore, how dare you.

But Life Aquatic is my favorite WA flick! The soundtrack is great, the cast is wonderful (itā€™s got Bud Cort!), and it features one of my favorite Willem Dafoe performances. ā¤ No Asteroid City for me, I guess.šŸ˜¢

I donā€™t deserve the extra copy because I think Bottle Rocket is mid tier for WA. Iā€™m one of those weirdos who kind of likes Life Aquatic, mostly for the visuals (certainly shouldā€™ve been shorter.). My least favorite is Darjeeling Limited, though I likewise havenā€™t seen it in about a decade, maybe it would speak to me more now. And the best: Grand Budapest with Royal Tenenbaums being 1A, theyā€™re both flawless

Rushmore is the only Wes Anderson film I actively dislike. Jason Swartzmans character is terrible. I donā€™t know why people call this a coming of age film, when he never comes of age. He never takes responsibility for any of his actions or becomes a better person and when the movie ends I was like ā€œWhat was I supposed to care about?!ā€ Iā€™ve only seen Rushmore and Life aquatic once each, but I could definitely see myself re-watching Aquatic More

Can I have one? Been dying to see Asteroid City, but it didnā€™t come to a theater in my backwoods town. Oh, and Bottle Rocket is your favorite because your opinion is wrong! GBH is clearly his Andersonā€™s best work ;)

Iā€™ve never seen bottle rocket but I do really love the life aquatic, just this huge asshole who lost his best friend and then finds his son and itā€™s just a very human story, like a guy thatā€™s just given up but keeps going with this mission to find this creature My favourite though is Grand Budapest Hotel because Iā€™m a basic bitch xoxo

I am an absolutely huge Wes Anderson fan and was devastated when I just couldn't afford to watch Asteroid City in theaters. I love everything about his style and his humor and just how play-like his movies are. That being said I don't personally like Bottle Rocket because it's the least Wes Anderson of his movies, but I understand why some people do like it. The plot is relatively simple because the focus is on the character interactions, which are top notch as always with him. Dignan's personality is just hilarious, while Anthony's journey of growth and questioning of his role in both the heist and in his friendship with Dignan is relatable to me at least. I also love its complete parody of the heist genre (like Oceans 11). I have no idea what specific reason you have for like the movie, as your takes have always been interesting and informative to me. You say it's not complicated - it could be as simple as its lack of resolution - but I would honestly be more interested in seeing you review all of his movies simply because people either seem to love him or hate him and it might do some good to see the lovers hear some actually effective criticism and the haters hear why we love him. Anyway, I would love to have this movie to finish my collection and finally see it, but I won't be upset if it's not me as I didn't really answer your question. If you don't mind though, I would love to someday hear your thoughts on the Darjeeling Limited, since that is also frequently cited as his worst movie.

Haven't seen: Bottle Rocket Darjeeling Limited French Dispatch Asteroid City Best Wes Film: Grand Budapest Hotel. One of the few movies I can legit claim to be a magnum opus. I truly doubt he'll ever top it. Honorable Mention: Royal Tenenbaums. Incredible movie about family and all that that word means and implies. Personal Favorite: Moonrise Kingdom. One of the best family movies I've ever seen. Heartwarming and heartbreaking in all the right places. Least Favorite: Rushmore. I get that the film wants me to understand that Max is an asshole. What I don't get is the film wanting me to harshly criticize his character and then celebrate when he gets what he wants at the end. Like a somehow worse version of Scott Pilgrim. Dishonorable Mention: Isle of Dogs. Watched it exactly once, thought it was just okay, understood exactly why people called it a white savior movie, and to this day it's the only one of his films I have felt no need to return to. Final Thoughts: Really? Bottle Rocket, the one movie he made before he actually came up with a style that set him apart from the crowd, and thus is his most generic movie by default, that's his best? And Life Aquatic, one of the most emotionally moving films I've had the pleasure to see in my life, that's his worst? The performances, the special effects, the reckoning with the cruelty of fate mingled with the knowledge that you must take your pain in stride and the understanding that those around you who truly love you will be able to help you through your troubled times? Oh, and let's not forget the music, oh my lord, the music!!! I'm surprised we're this different in film taste in this instance, I normally agree completely with your opinions, or at least understand where you're getting them from. Honestly, this is the first time I've disagreed with your take since maybe Treasure Planet.

Bottle Rocket is the best because not only does it bring us to Wesā€™ Texas roots it gives us an inside on his view of relationships and delinquency. Itā€™s reflected in his other movies, Nutmeg and Chief, Zero and M. Gustaf, Roebuck Wright and wellā€¦ loneliness but it holds a special distinction as the first with Anthony and Dignan. Both are so strange and yet recognizable people that you canā€™t help but feel related to them. Thatā€™s Wesā€™ magic tho, feeling family in fantastical figures I suppose.
