Super Tight Bass Sidechain with Soothe2:

There are loads of plugins that you can use to sidechain your music with. But this one is the ultimate plugin question. It’s called Soothe2, and here’s how I use it:

1. Select the bass and kick tracks for side chaining.

2. Adjust the sidechain settings to cut frequencies around 500 Hz.

3. Set the sidechain to have a fast attack to catch the transient of the kick.

4. Then select a fast release, but experiment with these settings to synchronise everything with the kick.

This will ultimately leave your low end sounding much tighter as Soothe2 removes the specific frequencies in your kick rather than removing all of the lower frequencies.

This came today like a gift from God. Spent all day yesterday trying to create an insert with stock plugins when I had Soothe 2 sitting there. I had no idea there was a sidechain function. READ THE MANUAL KIDS!

OMG! After a bit of working this out (my brain was melting haha) I did it and it sounds freaking awesome! Kick is popping through but also sitting better in the mix than the usual sidechaining. Thanks @Streaky your tips are the best!

Ive been using this for a week now and is much better and faff free from the Pro Q3 trick of sidechaining the vocals to the instrumental

I've been saying this since it came out. I often test new plugins in my old chains that I have saved and use often.. Sooth2 (from my testing) is the FASTEST of all sidechain plugins. It's the new tightest sidechain you can use - and it obviously has selectable frequency ranges. Previously I was using Cubase's stock multiband for this, but Sooth2 wins out in terms of speed and it doesn't cause clicks or artifacts from the speed. Great plugin - I would have bought it just for the sidechain rather than it's actual function, which is automatic resonance removal.

Soothe2 is very high up on my plugin shopping list, it seems to be the best option in a lot of scenarios

If you don’t have the cash to splash on this AND use Ableton, both of their stock compressors have an EQ feature when side chaining. It’s obviously nowhere near as slick as Soothe2 but it can definitely help with only ducking certain frequencies

It’s a close call between soothe and trackspacer for this task I normally reach for trackspacer as I do believe it wins on the cpu usage front

I love sooth but the latency kills the mix

I like using multiband compression to do this with my low end on the whole mix buss.

Would have been cool to A/B to standard sidechain instead of bypass

It is great but using soothe more than once plus all the other pluggins it is already a path right to freezing screen for me

Do you consider it better for that purpose than TrackSpacer?
