On 1st August, I began my apprenticeship at the garden administration that is responsible for the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe (which is in fact even UNESCO-Welterbe since 2013 for being Europe's largest mountains park). The main two projects that are under their administration is the caretaking for the Schaugewächshaus next to the Schloss Wilhelmshöhe which is one of Germany's first glas-and-steel greenhouses (constructed in the beginning of the 19th century!) and harbors absolutely fascinating and rare plants like over 100 year old camelias. Furthermore, they are responsible for the carpet beds in front of the Schloss Wilhelmshöhe. The plant patterns are based on historical records. I am really proud of being able to be part of the team responsible for these monuments.
And another great news: The cactus greenhouses in my local botanical garden which were destroyed by the thunderstorm in June 2023 finally get replaced now. The demolition of the old ones begins next week, and the start of the construction of the new ones is planned for this autumn 🥳

Beautiful. I just aquired a large specimen of Canadian Prickly Pear. Needless to say I'm exited to plant it in the ground and watch it survive the harsh cold
