Love this, but what do you do if some plugins don't have an output setting? I've encountered this a few times

I saw a pro engineer with multiple grammies use a bell to lower the second or third note of the bass buss. Then he pushed it into a vca compressor and matched the output. It sounded good but whatβs you opinion on this
