The supplement industry is not regulated. But the food industry is. If you purchase a plain (not sweetened) yogurt which specifically states "live cultures" that should help. In addition, there is a dish called riata that also gives you pre-biotics as well. Many foods actually. fermented for sure. I honestly think the food is the best way.

Thanks for saying that.
I try to explain to my patients all the time. Sadly, they just don't trust the pharmacy as much, and the doctors don't have or take the time to explain it... But in the US is should be easy. I heard the insurance pay for those actually! In Germany they don't. Even with IBS it's not covered by insurance

The best way to tell if a product contains live bacteria is to eat a bunch of prebiotics like cabbage and other easy to consume and digest ones such as beans and oats. Then you wait and see how much gas you get. If they contain live bacteria, you should get rather gassy. From there, you can keep buying the brand and eat a normal amount of prebiotic foods from then on.

I grew up drinking actimel and had pretty good gut health for most of my life until I dropped pretty much every fermented product in my early teens because I didn't like the taste.
I know it's hard to track consistency and such with those products, but I do wonder if they would be a suitable alternative to reintroduce probiotics in my diet because, needless to say it's been a mess lately.

If you wanna know which ones have live bacteria, Google a recipe for homemade yogurt! 🤣 They can't lie about it because then it won't make yogurt! (I'm not a doctor so I can't actually recommend this, but yogurt - even vegan yogurt - can be made with probiotic capsules and chefs are specific with what brand you should use

Silk almond yogurt are very much alive. I wasn't paying attention to the ingredients and ate it like regular yogurt. I'd feel myself starving later wondering why after everything I ate. Anyway, I stick to regular yogurt for snacks and only have almond as dessert (the vanilla is unique) when I had a good meal and know my next one isn't far off. It's probably great for people missing probiotic foods in your diet.

The Wellness and Nutrition industries are about wellness for their shareholders, not their customers.
