Just tried it with Pajarito special selection, and it gave it the extra punch and strong flavor . It was definitely worth it, and I can definitely see myself blending half the bag.

We use this thickher mate to drink it cold here in countryside Brazil, Paraguayan stile. Hot mate is more common in South Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay and for that the yerba is grinded thinner.

The finer any herb is ground, the faster it loses potency. That's why dedicated coffee drinkers usually grind their own beans, and dedicated cooks grind their herbs themselves whenever they can. So I could certainly see getting a coarse yerba mate and grinding it yourself giving a more potent and pungent result.
