I like that for the Ultramarine. He acknowledged he could be bad, just as bad as a Night lord. But he chooses to be better. That is what makes him different

There's a sad scene where the Night Lords are gutting and skinning civilians in the dark, doing the usual and the Raven Guard show up and destroy the night lords command structure and pick off stragglers.
The civilians are terrified of the Ravens, one pulls off his helmet to try and comfort a woman but the pale skin, black eyes and hair, similar to a Night Lord didn't help and made it worse.
The Raven Guard ultimately left weapons and rations behind for them and called in evacuation but those guys were shaken by how similar they appear to the Night Lords.

Tbf, the Sothan militias quickly sobered up from the shock and gave the Night Lord one hell of a beating that the NightLord never expect some farmers are capable of, costing them 20000 nightlord out of the initial 25000 just to defeat 3000 Ultramarines. The Sothan militia practically carried that fight. This is why the Scythe of the Emperor chose the scythe as their symbol, to pay respects to the Sothan people they are living with.

I like how the Ultramarine could have just spoken about how noble and glorious he is as a loyalist, but he has the integrity to be direct with the man.
Mericus is absolutely right that all Space Marines have the base capacity to be monsters, but as the Ultramarine points out, it is thanks to the influence of their genefather and Primarch that they turned out good, and THAT is what makes them different.
