That's $200 of timber right there.😆

My engineering teacher in middle school always said that triangles were the strongest shape and that’s all I remember from that class

I never questioned that piece, but I enjoy undersanding why it's there. Im a new DIYer, and if the professional use triangles, I'm going to use them too lol

This was perfect. Illustrative, short, educational, and fun. Wish YouTube had more stuff like this.

Finally a video I can show to clients who want the impossible "open concept" or say "cant you just cut out this one?"... The answer is we either hire an engineering firm to draw it new or just plain N. O. ....

You need to put that support on the inside of your truss not slap it on the outside. That way you’re getting the full strength of the board not just the screws

Yes indeed. Triangles are technically the strongest shape for weighted loads as they don't deform typically like other shapes, and thus we can see weight and strain distribution as he's hanging off of the truss keeping him elevated. Webbing in a truss will also help with the breaking issues by improving rigidity in the frame of it too. Also, in larger buildings and bigger roof spans, trusses are calculated to have a Camber in them where the timber is pre-bent or bowed if you will and then assembled. This helps compensate for roofing material loads as well as in some cases, snow loads or - in general - where excessive weights can burden the trusses.

Collar ties are a must when framing roofs.

With this house, I finally became the owner of the house I always wanted to be in. The hospital elite package has 2 bonuses; the first is about the base and the roof, youtube.com/post/UgkxS-P9OAq3v4HNpPFqYFWNEq9A-E_Pb… the second is about the confidential staff who give advice and the advice that worked for me. Thank you very much

Yep Unless you use a structural ridge beam then the roof weight is carried by the walls and ridge beam

If its a vaulted ceiling then its a collar. If its down on the wall plates like that with a cieling on it then its just cieling joists.

This is a great demo for any diy’er trying to build that loft area in their attic without the help of a licensed engineer.

During my civil engineering course we were asked to build a bridge. The guy who built a triangle held the best.

Can you please demonstrate with a structural ridge beam attached to a header at each side?
