The passive auto with W is very good by stats, but the problem is landing it bcs Sona has only 500 AA range and assassins can deal dmg too fast.

Edit: also don't forget her E slow, is 50% since lvl1, and the passive move speed for you and your teammates is so good, if played right she tends to be as annoying as a fizz to kill

The only useful information this short was the information that your w is a mini exhaust for players who didn't know.
But it will not save you from any other laner in a 1v1 (except if they are really far behind). The empowered w auto is really strong in normal fights to peel for your adc or even reduce the dmg of the enemy carry (if you an get in auto range without dying that is). If it is a 1v1 situation, i would much rather go for the empowered e auto attack and run away rather than delaying the inevitable.

The one thing people don't understand with countering assassin with sona: Gamesense.
Track assassins, make sure you keep your W passive up, then attack move when they leap in. They'll literally dive onto the debuff.

When I play Sona, I usually play around my E instead. I get support/AP/cd items with passive movement speed. I don't deal much damage but in team fights, I can get the whole team to reposition, retreat or chase whenever they need.

Ok, there’s a small mechanic that’s missing from this, there is a small window after using an ability that the next auto will be the previous ability. This can be used to quickly back track on a chasing opponent with a small shield, get in and get a w empowered or a empowered with a speed boost, or reduce their damage while hitting with q.
Q is also your shortest cooldown and doesn’t make you stop so you can poke while being chased.
