That generation of players was something rare, a 50 year kind rare. England probably will never get close to that especially with pl clubs having majority non english players. Pity they hated each others guts. Atleast the current squad doesnt have that issue.

The golden generation could barely string 2 passes together, they were awful as a cohesive unit and solely relied on their individual talent and thus never got anywhere. This squad probably doesn't have the same level of individual talent but is much better as a team and can play as a team and probably go head to head against anyone.

Key word was DEPTH. xi of golden generation player for player, for their clubs blitz this team but when you factor in that Kyle walker, TAA for RB choices, Saka palmer, foden, Bellingham, Gordon, eze all for the 3 behind the striker that could be the best CF in Kane or Watkins who scored 20+ goals for villa. Mid options of rice, Gallagher, mainoo Bellingham can drop back. He has a valid argument but defensive options is the concern
Honestly this squad picked for England, I think this guy is wrong. I do however think that if everyone was fit/ available/ correctly picked for the team(unrealistic and not ever gonna happen) and Branthwaite, Reece James, Ben white then the guy would be correct imo
Good news is that this generation will get better and better with the rising options at the back in years to come.

This squad isn’t as good as the golden generation, but the vast majority of opposition squads are MUCH worse than they were back then too. Which makes this squad our best chance at silverware.
