I was working at a health food store, and this is in mid-1990s b4 all this trans stuff was everywhere, and there was a customer who was very obviously a man who was transitioning and it startled me. He looked at me with such disappointment and bitterness that I always felt bad about what I am just NOW realizing was a natural human response to his delusion. Thanks, Mr. Menno. I can look back on that and not feel badly for my innate reaction. I treated him like any other customer. I only recognized him as a man, not a woman.
