Protesters clashed with riot police in Paris after the projected results from France's parliamentary election were announced.
The results of the second round of voting threw up a surprise win for the left-wing alliance.
And as fans celebrated in the heart of Paris, things turned violent, with the Leftist supporters clashing with those backing the right-wingers.
Despite the Left’s unexpected victory and the alliance being the single largest, the second round of elections threw up a hung parliament.
President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance came second and Marine Le Pen's nationalist, eurosceptic National Rally, which opinion polls had predicted would be the largest party, came third.
A three-way split in parliament with three groups having no tradition at all of working together is bad news for France.
