You missed a VERY crucial detail. Most companies only offer liability within a certain time-frame (usually the first 24 hours) of it being reported/stolen. So, if you have lost it for an extended period of time, they will NOT cover all of it, if any of it at all.

Being honest here, the best tip is to just not carry your credit card unless you're using it to buy stuff, it's just a good win win situation, you won't buy stuff on impulse that much and you avoid losing it

How to get a big mac:

In Croatia you need to type your pin (the one you'd use at an ATM or to log in to your app) for every in-store purchase above like 15€. If you're paying online you need to confirm it in the app for almost any purchase. The only thing is that you can buy almost any amount in the store by paying with your phone, but accessing that needs your fingerprint/face so that's pretty hard to steal. Safe to say, no one is buying a rolex.

Worse is when your data gets leaked and they only make small purchases with it over time. Since you only have 30 days to report a fraudulent transaction, they can go undiscovered and your left with the debt if you dont read every statement 100%.

fun fact: most providers have a restriction to protect your credit card, purchases over the provider's set amount will require your credit card password in order to proceed. (probably wont protect you from the big mac tho)
