There’s a few problems with a revaluation to 20k, instant inflation and banana republic status. Not to mention the gold supposedly in Fort Knox would have to be comprehensively audited. Furthermore Congress would use the low debt to gdp ratio as a reason to spend more.

That would be massively inflationary, and will destroy bond holders and would probably cause panic across the financial system, but on the upside, i think it would solve a bunch of issues

Ive heard this particular chestnut so many times.
If $20k why not $35k, like they did a few weeks after the great surrender, your gold or pay a fine and go to jail.
This time it might even be different, as in no fine or prison.
If the percentile of those that have physical gold is so low, because most people have debt, does it really matter what nominal figure they price gold at.
At least if the nominal figure does get adjusted at its inflated rate to reattach it to the dollar, they could claim that the 50yr 'temporary suspension of the convertibility of dollars into gold' has been lifted.
Hey presto, no more worthless dollars, just a 1 to 1 realignment with the japanese yen.
it might be educational to check out how many yen for an oz of gold.
