When getting the air out of a syringe I usually leave the needle cover on the needle. It decreases the chance of an accidental needle stick and decreases exposure of the naked needle to the dirty air in the room. Get the air out, remove the needle cover, give it one last check, then give the shot.

we were discouraged to flick syringes. instead, we were taught to put in more air(about 0.5 cc), flip the whole syringe a few times so that the big air bubble would merge with the little air bubbles. then, flip the syringe needle up and then expel the large air bubble out of the syringe before giving it to the patient.

Obviously I know how dangerous air in the syringe can be, but what would a REALLY tiny air bubble do to someone?
