Since your using the x1 with the ams. Just print the top layer or two in tpu for some grip.

Redo test with flat surface on 3D printed blade. Holes in blade could send ball in unexpected direction compared to flat surface blade. Think chaos theory, the "chaos" here is that when the ball makes contact with the holes it might not be getting hitting at "the same angle" as you expect with a flat blade.

Could try this with a more rubbery/cushiony filament. Regular ping pong paddles have that grip to not only add friction between the ball and baddle, but also to cushion the hit. Maybe also some smaller grids on the paddle so you have more surface contact and less randomness
