I have a rose bush that I thought I was going to have to bin last year, it was so infested with black spot after the first flush and had weak spindly stems. It looked awful! Started feeding it weekly with seaweed fertiliser, and my goodness, the transformation over the next six weeks or so was astonishing. It was like a different plant. And went on to produce a healthy and profuse second flush of beautiful blooms in September.

Love roses and have had a few in my time as a gardener. Shrub roses seem to the most hardy for me, but deer are always waiting to eat the buds before they even open. Between them and taking care of them, I have removed most over the years. The last two were tree forms that lasted about six years but got infested with black spot to the point where almost all their leaves were just dropping off. Gorgeous while they lasted.

That is great advice! I need to feed my roses. Japanese Beetles will be out in the next week, they are the worst!

Should I leave any leaves that show signs of "black spot"? I have always trimmed them off.😮
