Check out a cool jig made by Tormek that enables us to Re-sharpen dull drill bits! Without a special tool like this it is nearly impossible to match the compound angle on the cutting edge or sharpen a bit symmetrically.
Links to both the sharpening machine and the two bit giga are listed below. They are not cheap, but if you have a lot of dull chisels, bits, and knifes it’s a good buy.

My dad was a metallurgical engineer. He used a standard grinding wheel and sharpened all his bits by hand. Taught me not to fear getting the angles exactly right. Just sharpen it a little and give it a try. Some of his bits were shortened allot, but I never remember him buying new ones.

as a machinist, this was cool to watch, different than what I normally expect from this channel.

Slow the speed of the drill down. Looks like your going too fast for that size bit.

I’ve always free handed them on a belt sander with a backer. Works amazing and after the years of doing it I get them spot on by eye now. This little device is quite nice. Makes them better than factory new.

The good ole tormek. One of the best sharpening systems out there. I use it for jointer and planer knives and plane irons all the time.

I sharpen drill bits on grinding machines, or with the flap disc on my angle grinder. However, the results are the best with proper tools/jigs made for this! But it is very useful to learn to sharpen bits both for the value of saving money as well as repairing things that have value, and can easily be repaired. I would love to work with Jamie in the shop! Would be great to see some more fabrication jobs!

Wow $500 jig right there. Guess I'll continue using the bench grinder (not the website )

I think the tormek is a to slow grinder for this i use a normal bench grinder to reshape and sharpen my bits. And if i must cutt of the heated part i take about 2 till 3 Minuten for a 12mm /0,5 inch bit how long do you take?

Does the heat treatment burn off during this process?

What's the "Point"?... I think the point is too big. Maybe take the heavier angled back grind to the point and make it a brad point
