Just to note; this woman had a condition that made her lose all of her teeth and prevented her from getting implants. She did not lose her teeth from bad hygiene, and implants are not an option. I don't remember her whole story, but basically she is in her situation through no fault of her own.

Worked at a place where this woman was a chronic smoker, as well as a user of other illegal substances, who had lost most of her teeth due to it. She wasn't usually very happy, and was too self-conscious to smile at me when I took her order or handed things to her. A few months go by and I see her again, she looks completely different (the only reason I recognized her at all is because she used her rewards and had a very unique name). Her entire face shape had changed and she looked so much happier. She told me that she had gotten clean and got dentures. She was so happy with the results, and now she smiles every time I see her. I wouldn't say she was ugly before, but I could tell she was much happier and healthier now.

I have really bad genetics when it came to my teeth, and I think I might have been the only kid to ask for braces for their birthday every year from age twelve to age 18 but never got them. I saw so many dentists, and I repeatedly begged to have all of my teeth pulled and get fitted for dentures. Not a single one would do it. They told me the same thing you just did. I had already lost most of my molars, and when I decided to see an oral surgeon for an evaluation for implants, again, I was turned away. It had been too long. My bone was "razor thin." Nobody even considered bone grafts until my fourth oral surgeon, who is my absolute hero. I was afraid I was wasting my time seeing another one, but I was so sick of filling after filling falling out, my teeth literally rotting from the inside out, and nobody willing to give me dentures. Another reason they gave me was that I'm too young. I'm 50 years old, and I have been battling to keep what ugly teeth I hated for twenty years. I was over it. I didn't care that they told me I would look older and older as my bone receded. This surgeon I saw is one of the first to do zygomatic implants for people like me who have razor thin bone. He pulled the ten upper teeth I had left, placed implants and temporary teeth, pulled my lower teeth on the right side and placed bone grafts that he covered and let heal, and when I woke up I was one of those people in tears looking in the mirror at the perfect smile I never thought I'd have. You can't tell I'm still missing half of my lower teeth, but last week, he finally said the graft was ready, and now I have the implants for the crowns to attach to. It cost a lot of money, and I was terrified because the surgery had every chance of failing. My body could have rejected the implants, and I'd end up with dentures, and the almost fifty thousand dollars that it all cost might as well have been shredded. It is worth it, though. I'm shocked at how much they feel and function like real teeth, and you can't tell. Even though I'm still on my temporarys and go in next week to start measuring and molding the permanent teeth that I'll have, I couldn't be happier with the results and I really think dental insurance needs to cover the procedure. I am still somewhat shocked when I smile, and I'm not thinking how can I hide my teeth.

Not everyone can afford implants they are quite expensive. Lots of people hate bottom dentures because they don't have the suction the top ones do. You could go to a dental prothetist for a reline which is cheaper. I've seen people who are using the same dentures they got 40 years ago. Remember you don't know other people's stories so don't judge.

Implants do not always work! Many people have had the implants removed because the body rejects this foreign material. This happened to two friends of mine along with some celebrities such as Dick Van Dyke whom experienced severe health issues such as cronic pain in his jaw and severe daily migraines. Once he had the implants removed all symptoms disappeared so needless to say..... Not everything is as it appears

Also, I highly recommend not going to a general dentist for dentures! You want a prosthodontist, preferably one with a denture lab on site. Everyone I know that went to a general dentist had a very difficult time and lots of waiting for dentures to be sent back and forth when they didn't fit properly, and they often didn't. My prosthodontist made sure they fit the entire time I was healing, I wore the immediate dentures for an entire year without any adhesive products. Going to a prosthodontist that knows what they're doing, and takes the time to educate patients, makes all the difference.

Cushion grip is the best thing for dentures. I put it on my dentures and I don't ever have to use denture glue. The cushion grip forms to your gums and it makes them stay in place. Highly recommend if you have dentures

These products are not meant to be used long term, they're mostly for immediate dentures when you're healing and your gums are constantly changing for about a year. I Lost all my teeth last year due to a connective tissue disorder, they literally just loosened and fell out. Dentists couldn't do anything. Unfortunately I'm not a candidate for implants either. I have full dentures, and yes, your jawbones remodel themselves and get smaller when they no longer have teeth to hold. It's been a year and I don't use any glue or adhesive at all anymore to keep them in. If you don't use glue, eventually the muscles in your face sort of train themselves to keep the dentures in place, it's hard to explain. There are ways to keep your bones from shrinking a lot after the initial healing process. Dentures only last about 10 years anyway before you need to have them remade.

1.) Suction dentures 2.) You can get them relined-- duh 3.) If I were a professional, I'd be a little more careful with who I recommend implants to-- they're screwed directly into your bone, can cause a plethora of issues if done improperly, and require impeccable hygiene. I had a friend who was recommended implants & got them.. after a serious bone infection and several rounds of IV antibiotics, he can't even wear normal dentures now.

My mom had to get all her teeth pulled at 49 years old, lifetime of smoking and alcoholism. It was so horrible and sad to watch her go through the grief of that, and when she came home I could barely even look her in the eyes because I just wanted to cry for her. It was very traumatizing.. even more so for her, I can't imagine the pain and suffering that has caused her. I still cry about it because I also have bad teeth from growing up in poverty and childhood depression, so I'll likely suffer the same fate no matter how good I take care of my teeth now.
