Boar bristle brushes are one of the most underrated hair growth tools! This is the second winter in a row that I've been inspired to get more consistent with my boar bristle hair brushing. As a curly haired person, it can be easy to think "maybe it's just not for me." But every time I begin using it again, I am re-convinced of its unbelievable benefits! Regular boar bristle brushing has gotten my hair out of an awfully tangled rut I had been in, and brought increased shine, moisture, and manageability.

Be careful with antiques. My mom was getting sick and they found out that the antique silverware and other things she owned had high amounts of lead. Apparently back in they day they used lead mixed in some silver items!

😮 Oh!! I have an ancient boar bristle brush in a box of my great, great, great grandmother's bits, carefully passed down. Going by the family tree, and because I know it was given to her on her 21st birthday (the card is with it ..... I think we might be hoarders of family history, it is 160 years old!! It's a beautiful thing, made of ebony with a raised silver, fancy monogram of her initials (HRP) and is in a set with an ivory inlaid comb and a silver hand mirror. I have never used it, and as my hair is type 3, I'm not sure I should, but I might try one day before I wash. I shall certainly go and get the box out because there are other beautiful family things in there like elbow length lace gloves, ostrich feather hair pieces, hat pins, gloves, Victorian lace collars and old calling cards. Such a different time!! Thank you for reminding me!!

Ivory combs were used for tangles and styling. While the boar bristles brush was used to distribute the natural oils in our hair to the dry ends. Thus the rule that you should brush your hair one hundred strokes every night. That is what we grew up with.

I've been using a Boars bristle brush since 1988. You'd be surprised how much debris sticks to your hair. Before washing, I comb out tangles starting at the ends, then i use a brush with timy balls on the ends of rhe bristles to stilulate my scalp and losen debris. Then i brush with the boars bristle brush. My hair feels really clean using the boars bristle in between washings. It also shines more.

I have been trying less frequent washing and the boar bristle brush for the last month... my hair is getting thicker and longer. THANK-YOU SO MUCH for the videos!

I have been exclusively boar bristle brushing my hair for over 20 years. During this time I have had to shave my head three times and wore it short for about 10 years. I only wash my hair about every three months, because it doesn’t get dirty, greasy or oily and looks really clean. I do dry shampoo my hair once a month and use Rosemary oil on it. I currently have hair that is about a foot long and am growing it longer. I have no split ends and have shiny healthy hair. I love practicing vintage hair chair treatments because my hair has never looked better.

I bought my first boar bristle brush last month. Love that it also catches all the shed hair that doesn't land in the vacuum cleaner! Enjoy your precious brush, it is such a blessing.

So I don't know if this is just by me but I've been able to find antique brushes for super cheap at antique stores I've been at. Like I have 4 and their all around 5 dollars.

my mum used to use a boar brush to brush her curls out. She hated that memory so much that we weren't allowed brushes until we bought our own as adults. I now use a handless tangle teaser every night and have a brush dryer (a little overrated) for drying my curls straight

It takes about an hour every night to brush with board bristle brush if you have thick hair because you have to separate and brush small locks of hair at a time. Thin hair people got it easy.

I believe that it's more about simulation of the scape, not as much about the 'hair'... For growth. And castor oil... They used that for everything. It was and still is, the wonder oil

I know that in the old days, women actually would count out 100 strokes while brushing their hair at nighttime. I knew a lady in her seventies that had very long hair and she wore it parted down the middle with two braids. She had the longest hair I’d ever seen on a Black person. This video of yours reminded me of watching her brush her hair at night. She and her daughter took hair and nails vitamins.
