Whenever I post photos and videos of projects that I have made online, I will get the enthusiastic and kind comments that I have a talent or I'm gifted in some way. While I certainly appreciate the sentiment behind these comments, I actually don't think I'm particularly gifted. And while I may have what some perceive to be a talent, to me the word talent implies something that you were magically granted at birth.
But the skills that I have learned to do and that I am still learning to do came with a lot of hard work. They have come through many, many hours of struggle and devotion and failure, and continuing to try and continuing to be disillusioned by the things that I make and then trying to do better the next time. And shoemaking is no exception.

I think a gift is something you were born with but talent is something you got good at over time. You ma’am do have a talent. Don’t undermine/limit what your hands can do and what your mind can come up with because a lot of people are just not coordinated to so such things. This is exactly what I want to explain to people who often say to me "oh I could never draw like that" or "I wish I could draw like you." I know these people mean well, but I'm good at what I do because i have 19 years of experience at it. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. I wasnt this good when I was 5 years old. I wasnt this good even 5 years ago.

I find it bizarre that you are complaining about positive remarks as if it's taking away from what you are doing. When this world is so full of hate and negative comments.... It almost feels like you are saying the compliments aren't good enough... that's just sad.

Even if you're talented, you'll never get proficient without putting in the work. You have to cultivate it.
