EXPLODE YOUR CHORUS VOCALS 🧨

This mix technique is done by nearly ALL big mix engineers 👀

It gives presence in the verses...

But EXPLODES the choruses, giving you a rich, open sound 👌🏻

Stick any effects that you may have on your vocal channel onto a summing channel

Then put something like the Ozone Imager or any other stereo imager plugin on

Automate it from around -50%, and then when the chorus comes in, increase it to +50%

(To hear the stereo effect, flip your phone to the side to turn it into stereo 👍🏻)

Seeing a lot of comments with concerns about phase - which are valid. Learning to manipulate phase relationships is a really fun way to stop looking at rules as limitations, and instead form a greater understanding of the extent to which we can abuse such knowledge so that our recordings can sound larger than life. Be honest with yourself about how well it translates technically, and really try to focus on whether it enhances the feel of the track. A good example of this is using parallel processing at extremely low mix levels. Start mixing in from -inf and you'll find that the character of your original track starts changing before the parallel chain is even audible. This can be supported by having a 'difference' oriented mindset, rather than an 'outcome' oriented one when making mixing decisions. I like to think that there will always be a theoretical difference digitally, but as engineers we are looking for a pragmatic difference, perceivable physically through any set of speakers. Happy mixing bois.

Omg! The incredible balanced sound that just came out of my phone speakers is beautiful. I wish I could mix and balance my music like that.

I always keep my delay effects in the verses at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock and then the chorus is full left and right with the delay offset by 20 ms left to right😊
