This video foreshadowed my day today! I got a rejection email from a summer internship, but I decided to take Erin’s advice and respond diplomatically. The hiring manager said she’ll keep in touch with me once other spots open up! Guys, this stuff can actually work. I’m so grateful they didn’t ghost me lol
Update: I didn’t mention this before, but it’s through an internship program with my uni. I have other options that I’m still interviewing for. They’re all small local businesses and organizations. While they might not reach out, they would be more likely to remember and reconsider me if I contact them. Small and local is my strategy rn and I think it’s going well based on the networking I’m doing.
I’m a stubborn optimist because the last thing I want to be is another jaded person in the comments section.

I got one that said I wasn’t qualified. I followed up because I know better. The HR person at first was dismissive but she checked and found it was a mistake. I was interviewed and hired two days later. Set a record in the company for being hired and starting on site. 😂. Never hurts to follow up.

Is this for getting turned down AFTER the interview or for not even getting the interview?
Because "everyone wants to hire teachers," but this 11-year veteran public school science/math teacher with a Master's in instructional design and employee training research has applied to over 100 jobs in the past year and has gotten nothing but "we are pursuing other candidates," and, whenever I ask why, nothing but "we are only allowed to say that the most qualified candidate was chosen."

My mom has been on a break from work because of her health for a while now. She just now found a new job that would help lessen the stress on her knee that was painful. At first, she didn’t get the job. But the new employee quit after 2 weeks and they contacted my mom for an interview. And she got the job!🥳 I’m so so proud of her, she’s someone who doubts herself a lot but she did it!☺️❤️

Type “FEEDBACK101” on my Instagram post (@AdviceWithErin on IG) for my free email template 👩🏼💻 Biggest mistake people make during their job search: not applying to rejection emails. Here’s why: ❌ One time I was rejected from a job. 👩🏼💻 I emailed them back thanking them for their consideration & asked them why they didn’t pick me. ✅ Long story short—they decided to give me the job. Rejections aren’t a moral failure. You have no CLUE why you didn’t get the job. It could have had nothing to do with you! 👨🏼💼 They could have been forced to give it to the CEOs nephew. 🏢 They could have filled it internally. 🚫 They could have eliminated the role altogether! Job interviews are networking opportunities. A rejection is an opened door, not a closed one. You now have an IN. And you’d be surprised how many times things like this happen: ✅ the person they picked for the position doesn’t work out & the company comes back to you ✅ the company has a similar position open up a few weeks later and you’re top of mind ✅ that hiring manager moves on to another company and recruits you for a role there So, what do you say, exactly? Type “FEEDBACK101” on my corresponding Instagram post & I’ll send you a copy + paste template. “But Erin! What if it’s from an automated email?” No worries! I include directions on what to do in that instance, too! You got this! 👏🏼
