The cheapest and pretty good food I've found in LA is Tacos Mexico on Glendale Blvd in Echo Park. Every Tuesday and Thursday they have 1 dollar tacos! It's pretty much what I eat on those days. One thing to not though is they charge a dollar fee if you use a card so try to use cash.
