Should probably mention to make sure the PS can supply enough current and make sure they are the same polarity.

Besides the voltage, you also need to be sure that the power supply can provide enough current for the item it is powering. Too low of a current can damage the item, or just cause it not to work properly. Also, the polarity of the plug could be a factor. If it's wrong, you will fry the device.
