I like the shorts, but just a quick correction: the capital of the western Roman Empire was Mediolanum (modern day Milan). The city of Rome was seen as a more spiritual capital of the whole empire, while the west was run from Mediolanum and the east from Constantinople.

Actually the western capital was Ravenna, a more strategic location. Rome was still important, but only really ceremonially.

330 to 1204, got conquered by the crsaders in 1204 to 1261, Romans rebuilt the empire in 1261 to 1453
Then finally conquered by the Ottomans in 1453.
Disregarding the brief crusader period. Eastern Rome lasted more than a Thousand yrs
