Catalytic converters vary GREATLY in the precious metal contents amount from unit to unit. Example:
A cat from a 94 Honda accord ULEV has about 250-375$ of precious metal. The prices difference j say relates to price fluctuations in the market but is an accurate representation. Compare that to A replacement catalytic converter that you would weld in or an aftermarket cat converter may have $10.
Typically your older Japanese car catalytic converter is Toyota Honda Lexus Acura have very sought after cats from say 2010 and earlier. Same thing applies to pick up trucks and SUVs not as much w domestics, Until you get to full-size trucks like the Ford F150, which has a very valuable cat, typically the bigger, the gas engine, the bigger the catalyst to offset admissions. Catalytic converters and emission systems are also required to operate properly from the manufacture for 150,000 miles. Bigger trucks, bigger, cats, more value. Older Japanese cars and European vehicles have highly sought after recyclable cat converters. I’ve recycled some cat converters off of older Audi from the late 80s to early 90s that were worth five and $600 apiece at first stage recycling! So your Honda gets its catalytic converter cut out the guy that did it can expect to get at least $100 bill for it. If it’s an aftermarket unit, he’ll be lucky to get anything for it.
