That’s the best explanation I’ve seen on the difference between a clipper and a limiter

The best explanation out there. Very simple, yet elaborate.

I was just thinking about this last night. The beauty of clipping is that it’s a hack. With limiting, everything changes: transients, depth, element balance, frequency balance(tonal balance) everything is liable to change. With clipping, you can groom a signal (to a degree) without fundamentally altering the balances or transients. Clipping allows you to take a snap shot of a signal that retains the detail with higher fidelity than limiting—within reason. Both limiting and clippers will crap out if you push them. But admittedly, clipping has greater maneuverability—especially if you’re trying to maintain everything “as-is”

Use a clipper to chop off some very attacky and pointy snares, crashes, stabs etc etc before a limiter.

Clipping can also be thought of as limiting, but with instant attack and release.
